Wordy Daily Puzzle Strategy
Wordy gives you six guesses to find a five-letter word, and everyone gets the same answer on the same day. Six is plenty of guesses. What runs people out of them is spending the early ones on words that can only confirm what they already know.
Opening guesses
- Use five different letters in your first guess. A repeated letter tests one fewer.
- Aim your second guess at the letters you still know nothing about, not at the ones you have already placed.
- By the third guess you want to be working out positions rather than still hunting for letters.
Reading the feedback
A letter marked correct is in the right place and stays there. A letter marked present is in the word but somewhere else, so the position you tried is now ruled out too. A letter marked missing should leave your list immediately. The one exception is a word with a repeated letter, where the same letter can come back marked differently in two places.
The last two guesses
Once you are down to a handful of candidates, pick the guess that separates them best, even if that guess cannot be the answer itself. Spending guess five on a word that tells you which of four options is right is usually better than picking one of the four and hoping.
