How WORDY works
Six guesses, one five-letter answer, and the same answer for everybody that day. Six is plenty as long as the early guesses are doing real work.
First guesses
Use five different letters in your opener, since a repeated letter tests one fewer. Point the second guess at what you still know nothing about rather than at letters you have already placed.
Reading the board
A correct letter is in the right place. A present letter is in the word but not there, so that position is ruled out too. A missing letter can leave your list straight away, unless the answer repeats a letter, which is the one case where the same letter can come back marked two different ways.
The last two guesses
With four candidates left, a guess that cannot win but tells you which one is right beats picking one and hoping. Spending turn five to make turn six certain is usually the better trade.
